Our first Aqua Clara Water Filter

Today we started putting together our first Aqua Clara water filter in Cayes. We were supposed to do this this past week but it has rained everyday since Monday. Today we were able to separate and wash most of the materials and started putting it together. All that is left to do is wash the fine sand and put it in as well. The fine sand wasn't dry enough yet to separate so we will have to wait until tomorrow.

Sunday School in Haiti

Here are a couple of shots of the Sunday School that has been happening at Castel Pere for over a year. I am so proud of these guys for stepping up each Sunday to work with the younger kids. They play games like musical chairs, having mini talent competitions, tell Bible stories, color, do skits, and sing songs with the kids. They now have 100 kids in four classrooms. They boys have a meeting each Sunday afterwards to discuss what will be happening the next Sunday. Dejantis Joanel is the director and he picks out the stories and runs the meetings.

Teens we want to help

Here is Rebert, a smart individual with lots of potential. He knows that he wants to be a doctor and studies diligently to get good grades in school.

He is only one of many that EDUplus is working towards helping to achieve his dreams.

One way that you can help us out now is being visiting our wish list and donating items that we can use in country. http://www.amazon.com/wishlist/6Q0IKQVFQG0Y/ref=reg_hu-wl_goto-registry?_encoding=UTF8&sort=date-added

Back from Haiti

We just returned from our first trip to Haiti since the earthquake on January 12th. It was hard to see in person what we had been seeing on TV. After being back in Haiti it just confirmed to me that Haiti was where I belonged. It also confirmed that EDUplus is very needed and relevant now more than ever.

I am packing my bags and arranging my flights to return to Haiti in two weeks. I will be starting our water project and working on a few other projects as well. I was pleasantly surprised to see the Sunday School continuing and our boys speaking English and able to translate for visitors. EDUplus may be new, but the work we have been doing is already years old.

Haiti Earthquake.

Due to the recent events in Haiti, I have determined it appropriate to keep updating my blog. I am currently in Arizona, but have been locked in to all events taking place down in Haiti.

For now, I will keep all of you updated on all things Haiti, and the news I am hearing.

I will be posting e-mails received from friends in Haiti, links to places I feel best depict the current situation, and thoughts I have on what is going on in terms of relief.

Please stay tuned, pass my blog on to your friends, and help by donating to Global Family Philanthropy- the non-profit I am now involved with here in Haiti.

Thank you.

Potable Water Project

While Paige and I were down in Haiti we took some water samples and talked to some locals to see if there was interest in having individual water filters for each household. We found that the water was not up to standards and that the interest was there.
We are now taking the steps necessary to be able to start implementing a system in Les Cayes so that for a minimal cost each family can have good drinking water every day, without the need for electricity or even solar power.
Here are
some pictures taken by Wilson Jeanty of the places we visited to test the water.
